My business Becca’s Bakes NI creates personalised cakes, cupcakes and traybakes. I have always wanted to have my own baking business and baked throughout my school years for family and friends. I stopped when I moved to England to complete a degree in photography but during the first lockdown I used baking as a way to de stress. Towards the end of my degree I took the plunge and baked cakes for all the birthdays I had coming up so I could practice before offering my services. My granny Martha taught me to bake when I was younger and I’ve carried on her love for baking in her old kitchen using her recipes.

The Go for it programme involved creating a business plan which included my pricing, goals and thinking about every aspect of my business. The programme helped me understand what I have already achieved in these past few months and how I can develop this further by the end of next year. It gave me a great insight into the coatings of my business and what profit I will be making. My business advisor Catherine reached out to me on Facebook to see if I’d be interested in the programme. My mum had suggested I contact LEDCOM but I just hadn’t got around to it so Catherine messaging was fab.

She was so lovely and easy to talk to and gave some great advice of other business people to follow on social media. My business has become so busy in the few months it has been running and in the future I would love to be offering themed treat boxes/ postals on a weekly/monthly basis. I see myself growing out of my kitchen in the next 1-2 years so perhaps building something beside my house as somewhere to work. I would also love to attend some courses and maybe learn some fondant modelling
